Caroline Bay is a choice location right on the harbour adjacent to the Timaru Port. It's a safe park setting and available for overnight parking for self contained motor caravanners.

There are some restrictions as detailed on the sign. There may well be a problem in summer with the 10 van limit, but that is perfectly reasonable as others also make use of the parking area.

We only found out about Caroline Bay after talking to one of the locals in the Timaru Pak n Save, and it proved to be a great place to park overnight. Even though the port is on the other side of the road, the reserve itself was quiet and felt safe. It was obviously well used by local people, as well as visitors like us.

There is a large toilet with a public dump station outside. You can walk along the beach, or through the reserve, sit outside at one on the picnic tables, or surf the net - 4 bars of Vodafone coverage.

We only stayed the one night, but enjoyed our time in Timaru.
