Hi Chris, just started using your site as a tandem source to the NZMCA sites. It has some great options otherwise not listed. However, just thought I would let you know that the Waipu Golf Club no longer provides RV services. The lady at reception said that they were sponsored by DoC at Uretiti and by the Ruakaka Campground and thus not allowed to offer sites any more. Take out the competition I guess. Regards

To Rebyl Taumaranui. That battery place in Industry Rd AK probably over charged yous because it was a Saturday and Waitangi Weekend. Most places will do that. There is a really good Auto Electrical shop that stocks house batteries in Paeroa if traveling through there. The guy there is very reasonable and will fit them for you.

Hi Bailey, One of the joys of travelling in an RV is that you don't need to detail plan for every possibility. It's worth planning a short trip away first just to make sure you've got the basics sorted. Then, plan your route using our trip planner, using the filter on the map page to find places to visit and stay that you'd enjoy. Use the Video Helper under the logo to get familiar how to do this.

Hi, I'm a first time explorer and wondered if anyone has a check list they use when planning a trip? I have never been out in an RV before but have just bought one which I plan to live in for a few months heading up to the cape via east coast and back down via the west coast. Any help would be appreciated by this newbie.

Thanks for your comments DavidF. Freedom camping is a completely different experience from staying in campsites. While saving money is one factor, some of our best locations are beach or lake front parking areas where you can experience New Zealand environment free from campsite distractions. And yes, it does breath life into some of our more remote communities.

We live 6 months a year between 2 motorhomes, 1 NZ 1 AU. It would be an unaffordable way of living if not Freedom Camping. Both vehicles exist Off The Grid completely. We observe - particularly inland AU, towns that have banned freedom camping are dying, those that embrace it are thriving. Usually the holiday park owner is on the council in banned places. We do not like being forced to buy something we do not need so we stay away - we have yet to come across a town where the laundrette is trying to have home washing machines banned from private ownership. Keep up the good work.

Glad you're finding the site useful! If you open the trip planner or full screen map when you're logged in, you can use the filter to display all the pet friendly locations. It's not as comprehensive as I'd like as the councils can vary their rules, and it's not always clear for the campsites. If in doubt, check with the council or campsite concerned.

I'd also like to add if anyone can share some dog friendly places to stay, I'd really appreciate it.

Over Xmas we spend 3 nights on the Pohangina Valley just north of Palmerston North. http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/manawatu-whanganui/places/pohangina-valley-area/ We camped at the Piripiri site next to the river. This is a basic site with room for 3 vans. (There is a toilet but no potable water, unless you boil the river water.) Saw some fish but couldn't keep them on the line. There are other larger camp sites in the valley which we didn't visit. Highly recommend this area, particularly if you like to fish.

Got caught out on our first trip, house batteries died, needed new ones on Waitangi weekend, a Saturday. Found one open in Industry road in Auckland they fitted two new 6 volt deep cycle Power Sonic 210 amp/hrs batteries for a good fee, only trouble was the cost of the batteries is way over the top. When in need you cannot Co plain but once I found out that they had charged me almost $200 per battery plus get over the suggested retail price my blood started to boil. I have rung and told them I want a refund, I will wait and see but if I do not get it there are serious steps that can and should be followed if this happens to you. Suggested retail is $568 plus get They charged me $740 plus get and that is per battery Pisces off...you bet

Mowhanau Beach 15kms up the coast from Whanganui has a stunning little campsite with all the amenties, clean and in a beautiful setting. We have only been there twice both in the winter and this little village was a slice of heaven both times. Really busy in summer with a family atmosphere and lots for kids to do we were told, we saw a fabulous adventureous kids playground down at the beach. Worth a a look and a mention.

Check us out if you're coming to the CamperCare Show at the Mystery Creek Events Centre this coming weekend (27 Feb - 1 Mar, 2015). We've set up a stall so that we can let more people know about RV Explorer and get their feedback for making it even better.

Thanks for giving me your card Chris. You have made a very interesting website. We travelled from Dunedin to Cape Reinga and I wish we had know about your site before we left. Well done and thanks again.

where are you guys now? Hope the weather's better, lovely and sunny up here. Don't know if you knew but Wendy's been asked to look after Mary again, M-A has a cold. Dropped her off at M'ville y'day, Bernie has gone North with Miriam to see Michael, not an emergency visit, Wendy took M out to lunch today at a new café at Wahoroa (sp) which she really enjoyed, Bernie back on Monday, M-A bringing W home on Monday as no car, cheers, Bruce

I just love the farmer's market in Waihe Beach? You can get fresh produced at very reasonable price. Remember ost of the farmer's market happening during Saturdays and sundays in different towns. Some of the places close the farmer markets during Winter season. Hopefully in spring time there are more of them, The good part of the markets are not only to bring the communities together, It is also to make a quiet village or township full of lives and activities to attract more traffic and bring more economic activities to your places.
