There is a small beachfront reserve at the end of Karewa Ave off the East Coast Rd at Waharoa. There are nice new public toilets and a public dump station.

This is a really nice location and was being well used on Christmas Day when we noticed it while drive past. We stopped to make use of the dump station, but were also impressed by the location and quality of the facilities.

Curiously, Karewa Ave is signposted, but it doesn't come up on Google Maps, or on our Garmin GPS. The dump station is clearly signposted as you are driving past.

The only problem with the design of the dump station is the unusually high edge, which made draining our waste water rather slow.

The reserve parking area has a No Camping sign, but that shouldn't exclude self-contained motor caravanners from staying overnight. You can't drive onto the grass area, but it would still be a nice quiet location if you want to stay over.
