Kawatiri Beach Reserve, also known as North Beach, is a large parking area on sand on the West Coast north of Westport. Freedom Camping is allowed in self contained vehicles
This is a stunning location that includes public toilets and barbeques. There is also a NZ Motor Caravan Association members parking area, which we could have checked into, but we were just a happy to park in the Certified Camping Area near the entrance.
We called in after driving up to Westport from Greymouth and really enjoyed our overnight stay. There aren't many places where to can freedom camp directly on the beach!
