Fantail Falls is a small walerfall just off the Haast Pass-Makarora Road. There is a short forest walk to the waterfall which is shaped like a fantail. There is also a longer, 3 hour, walk to Brewster Hut.
It's a nice, peaceful location, and the waterfall is an unusual shape - it would be a nice place to stop for a break from driving, and a to enjoy the short forest walk.
There are several DOC locations along this road, so you're really spoilt for choice.
