Desert Rd Summit

There is a large rest area at the summit of the Desert Rd highway where self-contained motor caravanners can park overnight.
On a clear day there would be a stunning view of Mounts Ruapehu and Ngaruhoe.
It's only just off the main highway, so is likely to be rather noisy if staying overnight.
