Entrance to the lookout
The Te Ponanga Saddle Rd Lookout has a great view out over Lake Taupo and makes a nice place to stop for a driving break.
It was a dull overcast day when we stopped. The view would be spectacular on a clear sunny day. Even so a number of vans stopped to admire the view while we were there.
There is no sign about parking overnight, and it would be a bit isolated if there are no other vans to keep you company. The parking area is set back from the main road, so it would be reasonably quiet and sheltered.
