Orere Reserve is on the opposite side of the road to the Opepe Memorial Reserve and features four different historic walks from 5 mins to 1.5 hours
We arrived at around midday and stopped to have lunch.
We had stopped at the Opepe Memorial Reserve previously, but only noticed that there was a parking area on the other side of the road. We were surprised to find that it was also parking for a separate historic reserve.
We didn't have time to do any of the walks, although the shortest ones were only 5 and 10 minutes long.
This is a potentially interesting stop for those interested in history, or just a convenient parking area on the way from Napier to Lake Taupo.
You could also park overnight, although it is a bit isolated, and we'd feel safer if travelling with at least another van.
It is also used as a rest area by large trucks.
