Karapiro Dam Carpark

There is a large carpark at the entrance to the Karapiro dam road crossing. Directly overlooking the lake formed by the dam, this is a nice location to stop for a break, or even to park overnight if you are self contained.
We called in on our way to the Karapiro Lake Domain Motor Camp, but had to stop because our motorhome was too heavy and long to drive over the top of the dam. We had to drive back into Cambridge and take the Maungatautari Rd to come back to the campsite.
There was some construction work being done when we visited, but there was still plenty of room in the carpark. While this would be a nice place to stay overnight, there are even better locations to stay around Lake Karapiro. One of our favourites is the Hora Hora Domain, but there are several to choose from.
