WAIKATO: OTOROHANGA

Kawhia is a sleepy little town, about an hours drive to the west coast along a steep and winding, but well sealed, road from Hamilton. Much smaller than Raglan, yet it has three campsites, including a low cost parking area.

We arrived in mid-winter, which was probably not the best time to visit as the campsites were pretty much empty, and the town was enjoying some peace and quiet from the normal influx of summer campers. 

Like the other two campsites, Forest View was well established, with older buildings and grassed parking areas. It was also being advertised For Sale. 

We parked out on the road and I walked down the driveway to have a quick look around. The present owner was relaxing on the sundeck with a friend, and was quite happy to chat about the campsite. They are set up with to take visitors fishing, with a boat parked on the grounds.

Being east of the hill, it catches the morning sun and would be sheltered from any westerly winds. It looked to be a pleasant location to stay, but of course, much will depend on the new owner if the campsite is sold.
