The Whangamata i-Site provides limited freedom camping in it's carpark for certified self-contained motor caravanners.
This is right in the town centre, so it is an excellent option if you want to do some shopping, go out to eat, or catch a movie.
The parking area is not large, and you need to park between the freedom camping signs, which may be occupied by other cars when you arrive. Check with the Info Centre if you have difficulty.
There is a public toilet and also a walkway that provides access to the beach.
