Lake Rotomanu is in the Fitzroy suburb of New Plymouth. Alongside the Waiwhakaiho River, and connecting to the Coastal Walkway, this is a beautiful aquatic playground, used for water sports, fishing, picnics, or just going out for a stroll.

We were lucky enough to visit on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, and to be shown around by our two good friends who live in New Plymouth.

There were families going for a stroll or having picnics, cyclists riding along the Coastal Walkway, people on jet skis and water skis, and people fishing for whitebait in the river.

The Te Rewa Rewa bridge across the Waiwhakaiho river is a stunning piece of architecture. What could have been just a simple foot bridge has been made an enthusiastic statement for New Plymouth - that this is a great place to live!

For motor caravanners, there is plenty of parking and certified self-contained motor caravanners can stay overnight.
