SOUTHLAND: CENTRAL

The Vege Shed is a country store with character - housed in an old barn it offers a range of local products and meat from Athol Valley Meats.

We were driving on our way from Te Anau to Queenstown when we noticed this old barn style building offering country food. So we stopped to have a look, and ended up buying some meat and a few other items to take with us.

Shops like this, and farmers markets are much more common in the North Island, and we've seen very few in the South Island. Maybe it's population density. In any event, it was worth stopping and having a look around.
