NORTHLAND: WHANGAROA

We arrived in Taupo Bay late in the afternoon. It's a picture postcard pretty location with a small community living along the waterfront. There are no shops, but there is a motor camp located some distance back from the beach.

There is a reserve area along the waterfront which caters for day visitors, and would also make a great spot for freedom camping. Unfortunately this is not permitted, and we decided to continue on to Tauranga Bay where the motor camp is right on the beach front.

We did meet up with a couple in Tauranga Bay who did stay the night at the Taupo Bay Motor Camp, and they enjoyed their stay. It just wasn't what we were looking for at the time.
