DOC long-drop toilets
Honesty box for campsite payment
Tapotupotu Bay is a stunningly beautiful location. The DOC campsite right on the beach, and is well maintained and caters for motor caravans of all sizes.
We visited on a warm clear day in early Spring, to find that there were already people camping there. Like most other DOC campsites, parking is on grass. There are trees if you want shade, and open areas as well.
The bay is north facing, and surrounded by hills, creating a sheltered alcove, with the Tapotupotu stream running along the eastern side.
Long drop toilets are provided, and cold showers.
The campsite fees are just $6 per adult per night, and are paid into an honest box. You can't book ahead of time, so it may pay to get there early in the day during the busy summer holiday time.
We wanted to stay, but had to continue back down the coast. We will come back.
