Captain Cook's early map of New Zealand
Waipu Museum is a must stop for those interested in early New Zealand history. It's right in the Waipu town centre, and across the road from the Caledonian Park.
We were impressed with the stories of the intrepid settlers who left the far north of Scotland to look for a better life - first on the east coast of the United States, and then all the way around Africa and across to New Zealand.
While you can't stay overnight in their parking area, you have excellent overnight parking available in the Caledonian Park across the road for a very modest cost.
