The Te Araroa Holiday Park is located between Hicks Bays and Te Araroa on the East Cape. It has large on-grass parking areas and offers takeaway meals
This would be a good location to bring children who're into horses, and there are river and beach horse treks available.
It's about 200m walk through farmland to get to a nice sheltered beach.
There is also a bottle store for buying beer, wine and spirits, and a cinema - presumably for evening entertainment.
