The Timaru Pak n Save is the best location to top up your grocery supplies while travelling. There is plenty of room for large vans.
We called in on our way through Timaru, and were also looking around for somewhere to stay for the night. After buying our groceries, I was stopped by one of the locals who wondered why I might be taking pictures of the Pak n Save carpark. That led to him telling me about Caroline Bay - a prime location right on the harbour that the local council has made available for self-contained vans to park overnight.
That was a nice bonus to our shopping, and proved to be just what we were looking for.
