The Ohau Point Lookout provides are parking area and viewing platform for visitors to watch the seals in their natural habitat.

This was our all time favourite location to stop when we first visited prior to the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake. There was a DOC walk up the river to a waterfall and pool where seal pups played while waiting for their mothers to return from fishing in the harbour. Unfortunately, this was destroyed in the earthquake and the pool was filled up with rocks. The entrance to the DOC walkway is now blocked off, leaving only viewing the seals playing in amongst the harbour rocks. Still well worth stopping for.

We hope that the walk to the waterfall might eventually be reopened, but there are no plans for this at the moment.
