Kulim Park is a stunning location overlooking the Tauranga harbour, and is available for freedom camping in self-contained vans.

Unlike Fergusson Park, you can stay all through the week. There is a limit of 5 vans for a maximum of 2 nights per month.

It was a beautiful, sunny Autumn afternoon when we discovered the park while going for a walk from where we were staying in Fergusson Park. There were already the maximum allocation of 5 vans, so good luck trying to stay over the more busy summer holiday period!

This is a prime location for motor caravanners. You can park directly overlooking the beach. You can go for long walks, or even cycle into Tauranga city if you're travelling with bikes.

There's a children's playground, well maintained public toilets, and even a petanque green, where some locals were having a good time.

UPDATE: 24-aUG-2016

We stayed overnight at Kulim Park and really enjoyed the view over the harbour, including the Tauranga Port light reflections, and a stunning sunrise the next morning.

What we didn't enjoy so much was the train clattering past at frequent intervals throughout the night. We didn't notice the train on our first visit, and I suppose people would get used to it. But our preference would be to stay at Fergusson Park, which is just a few minutes away, and well away from the railroad.
