Sulphur Point Carpark is on a small peninsula that extends into Lake Rotorua and is accessed off Queens Drive.

We stumbled across this location while looking for somewhere nice to stop for lunch. There is plenty of room, with clean toilets, and a great view over the lake.

There is also a walkway where you can walk around the other side of the peninsula, or explore on bicycles if you are travelling with them.

We didn't see any sign concerning overnight parking for self-contained motor caravanners, so it may be possible to do that. It would certainly be a nice location, right on the lake front.

To date, Rotorual has not made any provision for motor caravanners, except for the existing campsites. Hopefully that will change as the Freedom Camping law is properly implemented.

You could try staying overnight, but be prepared to be moved on.
